Speaking and Programs

with John Jamison

A note about the programs:

John’s goal is to make sure each program is a perfect fit for those participating. If you see a topic in the following list that interests you, John will talk with you about your group and any specific needs you may have so he can customize the program to better engage the group.

Adult Groups

Theme: General

Making My Choices – John shares stories from his life that describe the true power of “choice”. A collection of serious experiences, packaged with humor. A great experience for those experiencing change or other challenges in their lives.

Why My Left Eye Twitches – John takes you for a visit with the members of his family and his experience of growing up in a world of people who mystified him. A fun-filled presentation with a positive message about just how strange families can sometimes be.

Theme: About Writing and Storytelling

Creating Stories – John shares tips and bits from his experiences as a story-creator and storyteller. Whether for writers or speakers, participants will walk away with a list of things to use to explore the power of story.

How I write – Not a course on writing…there are enough of those. And not a collection of “shoulds” for writers to follow. In this presentation, John takes you on a fun journey to find some of the things he has learned as he has written his novels and young readers’ books.

Writing Outstanding Characters and Dialogue – John’s books have been noted for his creation of authentic characters and realistic dialogue. John explains how he has done that, and shares a few fun activities to help you find and listen to your own characters.

How I Created the Skwerdlock – In this presentation, John takes you through the journey of creating Meet the Skwerdlock, the first in the series of Skwerdlock books. From the idea, to the story, to writing, editing, illustrating, publishing and marketing, there is something here for anyone interested in creating books for young readers and listeners.

The First Draft! – Why does everyone talk about how hard it is to write? Why does that blank page create blank minds? In this presentation John offers one idea he has learned that  removes the stresses and makes it easier for him to get his stories written. For writers of all ages.

Theme: Faith-Based

Mary Christmas! – It was nothing like we picture it. This presentation takes you on the journey of that first Christmas through the eyes of the first century history and culture. This presentation does disagree with some of the common thoughts of a modern Christmas, but replaces them with something far more meaningful.

Holy Week Revisited – Travel from Palm Sunday to Good Friday through the eyes of the history and culture of the first century. John shares insights into the Last Supper, the garden and all of the other events of this amazing week. Your Easter Morning will arrive with far more meaning and impact.

Children & Youth Groups

Theme: About Writing and Storytelling

How I Created the Skwerdlock – In this presentation, John takes you through the journey of creating Meet the Skwerdlock, the first in the series of Skwerdlock books. From the idea, to the story, to writing, editing, illustrating, publishing and marketing, this presentation is targeted to young storytellers.

You Can Write and Publish Stories – John walks through the options available to young people to become published authors of eBooks, print, audio books…at no cost. Kids are the absolute best storytellers, so why not share those stories with the world?

Business Groups

Theme: Change Management

Why Change Fails – Since his first job at age 18, John has found himself in roles with the specific task of bringing about change. From the church, to education and business, John will take you on a serious but fun journey through the wins and the losses, and point out the key factors he has found that have the greatest influence on successful change management.

Learning and Training

TranceForming Learning and Training Design – We stress over competencies, consistency, quantification, assessment, time-on-task, and now buttons and badges, and virtual reality. In this presentation, John explains why he groans when he hears about these things, and introduces the one element that has been shown to lead to more engaged and motivated learners, more authentic and meaningful assessment, and just better learning. This introduction to TranceFormational Learning is for educators, trainers, administrators, and anyone with an interest in creating more effective learning.
